India
is a country that has produced some World Class artists. Be it
singers, dancers, or instrumentalists, India has never failed to
produce talented artists. An immensely diverse country, India
contains hugely diverse instrumentalists as well. With various
cultures, languages and music tastes, instrumentalists from different
areas bring a uniqueness to the table. Having been blessed with some
legendary musicians of India like Miyan Tansen, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan,

Zakir Hussain
One
of the great names of Indian music, Zakir Khan has created an
unmatchable reign for himself. Born to “Ustad Allarakha Qureshi”,
a phenomenal Tabla Player, Zakir has made his family proud and has
followed his father’s footsteps of playing Tabla. Having performed
in his first concert at the age of 7, by the time he was 11 he had
started to tour countries. Termed a Child Prodigy, he made sure that
he delivered to what was expected from him. He is one of the
well-known musicians in India.

Hariprasad Chaurasia
Hari
is an immensely talented flute player, who at the age of 81 is still
going strong. Born in the holy city of Allahabad, Hari’s father
wanted him to be a wrestler. But his love for music made him go
against the will of his father and he went on to pursue music as a
career. He has composed music for a lot of Bollywood films and has
also collaborated with well renowned western bands such as “The
Beatles”. He also has a nephew, Rakesh Chaurasia, who is also a
well-renowned flutist.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma
Coming
from the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma is a
music composer and a santoor player. Also, he is one of the best
musicians in India. Santoor is a folk instrument and he is a master
of playing this instrument. He also has a son, Rahul, who is a
Santoor player as well. He also collaborated with Hariprasad
Chaurasia in 2007 to publish the album “Essential Evening Chants”.
Highly accomplished and decorated, he won the Padma Shri in 1991 and
Padma Vibhushan in 2001.

Amjad Ali Khan
In
the list of best musicians of India, Amjad Ali Khan is one of the
best musicians. Performing on the big stage since the 1960s, he won
the Padma Vibhushan in 2001. He is a classical sarod player and is
regularly experimenting with his music. Amjad has two sons, Ayaan Ali
Khan and Amaan Ali Khan, along with whom he performs in various
concerts. He also had a documentary directed by Gulzar, which went on
to win the Filmfare Award in 1990.
